March 14, 2024 International Falls, MN— International Snowmobile Racing congratulates the Baynes Brothers’s Racing Team, and driver Chris Baynes who set a New ISR International Snowmobile Racing World Record,” Top Speed” for the 1000′ Distance.
All records set during the event were certified by the Straight Line Speed Association, and the ISR before becoming official. The ISR World Record Snowmobile Top Speed for 1000′ was reset this year by, Chris Baynes, who made his first run of 201.70 mph to be the first snowmobile to post a legal run of over 200 mph, and made an even faster pass on his second run, with a New World Record Run of 202.33 mph! Chris was riding the new “Speed Needle 2.0” which is a custom speed machine designed, fabricated, and tuned by Hypersports out of Arlington, WI.
The Speed Needle 2.0 runs an HRC-4 Turbocharged 4 cylinder engine on methanol, with potential horsepower exceeding 1,100 at maximum boost. For the record run, the sled was tuned to the mid 900 HP Range, at 43 pounds of turbo boost. The chassis is also a custom piece from Hypersports, featuring numerous aerodynamic considerations in the design, right down to the amazing HyperBlade skis. Track conditions were excellent on the ice at International Falls, and we offer our congratulations to Chris Baynes, Kyle Baynes and the whole Baynes Brothers Racing Team, along with Glenn Hall, Craig Campton, and the entire crew from Hypersports.
Promoter Kurt Mohawk and his team at Straight Line Speed Association did an outstanding job operating the event, and deserve a round of applause for ensuring a Safe, Smooth, and FAST Ice Racing Surface. The ISR-Sanctioned Event, run by SLSA, offers competitors the opportunity to collect ISR world records aboard machines ranging from 120cc mini’s to 2000cc “Fire Breathing Dragons” running on a 1000′ sheet of shaved ice. with over 2000′ of shutdown area.
